Paulina Berczynski BIO

Paulina Berczynski was born in Communist Łódż Poland and lived in Italy and Canada before her family settled outside Philadelphia, Pennyslvania. She got into Andy Warhol, screen–printing, photography and public art in high school. She  graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a degree in Graphic Design and minors in Art and Photography.

Upon graduation, she saved up some cash and headed west to San Francisco, a city she had never seen before. A few months into living there, she fell in love with the city forever and realized she would always come back.

During the late 90's the work was good and Paulina got to work on many interesting projects at small design studios thoughout the Bay Area. She fell in love a second time (with her future husband) and decided to check out the rest of the country.

Living in Philadelphia and New York, Paulina continued her photo and art projects, and designed for great clients like PUMA and Bust Magazine. She worked as an art director in advertising and realized she really liked the fast-paced business side of design.

At the end of 2001, Paulina and Mike moved to Seattle to pursue new creative interests.

There, she designed materials for the NW FilmForum, a grassroots indie film organization, and started a side business with a dear friend, making wooden magnets and wall hooks printed with muscle cars, arty collages and vintage stereo equipment. Somewhere along the line, Paulina got her advertising dream job and started saving up cash. She decided to go for it on her own, and moved back to San Francisco.

FluffyCo was founded in 2005. Some of our first customers were CandyStore (SF), Velouria (Seattle), and Presents of Mind (Portland). The business grew steadily and moved often trying to find a balance between the need for shelf space and San Francisco’s crazy rents. Along the way, we went to a lot of trunk shows, shared a studio space with artists, and even had our own boutique. We did custom projects with Urban Outfitters and Target. Paulina got married. FluffyCo went international.

In 2008, Paulina finally found a great, raw studio space with exposed redwood beams on the ceiling and old wooden floors revealed below layers of carpet, right in the heart of the Mission, where our studio is today.

Then in 2009, Paulina and Mike welcomed little baby Deco into the world, and found a whole new dimension of awesome.

FluffyCo is currently a group endeavor that benefits from the many varied talents and ingenuity of its core employees. Having started with a few accessories, Paulina now designs new apparel, accessories, baby, and home décor items twice a year, which are sustainably produced and then offered both at market and online.

Paulina is currently living in Łódż, Poland with her husband and son.
